Blurb: Jess knew her life would never move forward if she remained a part of
Gregory’s pack. Some Alpha’s just don’t know how to take care of their
wolves. She had managed Gregory’s bar for years but she knew he would
never sell it to her.
After one giant mistake, he went from bad to worse. As a psychic, she
knew it was a downward spiral.
Taking her future in her own hands, she contacts the Alpha in Edenton.
He is happy to sell the empty bar no one has the time, nor desire to
renovate, much less run.
Their attraction is unexpected and the last thing either want, but they
find the only thing they need in each other.
There is just one problem. Slater’s second in command is plotting
against him. Liam will use anything to take over as Alpha.
Plenty of werewolves, an old vampire flame, plus a paranoid second, and
don’t forget the psychic with a whole lot of attitude.
Excerpt:
Slater stared up at the ceiling in his dark bedroom and slammed his hand
into the headboard. Man he felt like a dick. Jess was pissed, and she
had every right to be. Of course she’d be curious what was up with
Brody. He told her he didn’t date his wolves, and then he threw a
jealous hissy fit over nothing.
His feet hit the floor. Standing, he pushed his shorts off and made his
way through the house. The cool air enveloped him as he shut the door
and willed the change. Fur flowed down his back and his body reformed
into the wolf as he dropped to all fours. Hoping to burn off his extra
energy, he ran full out into the woods.
The sounds of the night wrapped around him, the owls in the trees, the
crickets, and the occasional fish jumping in the lake. He let nature
seep into his senses as he pushed himself faster. He hoped the run would
ease the tension that started in his shoulders and knotted down his
arms, back and all the way down his legs, but he had a feeling nothing
would help.
He stopped at the edge of the lake to drink. The cool water felt good
and he was tempted to take a swim. Maybe the cool water would bring some
clarity to his jumbled feelings. He told her he didn’t date his wolves,
and then acted like a jealous lover at the mere mention of another man.
Slater had never been jealous in the past. Not even when he watched
Victoria flirting with other men shortly after being intimate with him.
Then he realized that he hadn’t spoken to Victoria since that morning
Jess called.
He knew the little blond spitfire was going to throw his whole world
into upheaval, and he had a feeling there was nothing he could do about it.
Something caught his attention and he paused. A new scent entered the
mix of Douglas fir, redwood cedar and clean mountain air. It was the
musk of wolf with a hint of jasmine and he knew it was her.
Silently, he turned to search the woods. A honey colored wolf darted out
of the trees and froze as her amber eyes locked on his. His beast urged
him to run to her, to chase, to play. He realized he didn’t have the
desire to best her wolf like he did with the rest of his pack. That had
never happened before either.
He stood, taking human shape as he held his hands out to hopefully calm
her. Jess didn’t move, she just watched him, and thankfully he only took
seconds to fully shift.
Slater wanted to demand she stay, but his tone was gentle. “For the
record, I’m sorry I was an ass tonight. I shouldn’t have invited myself
over, but I did enjoy your company. You gave me no reason to jump to the
conclusions I did.”
She nodded once but took a step back.
“I’d like to talk. Without all the shit this time.” He cursed his
begging tone but he couldn’t help himself When she made no move to shift
back, his heart sank into his gut. “Perhaps tomorrow?”
She made a huffing sound before bolting back the same path she came. She
was headed toward home.
The urge to win her trust was too strong, he knew getting close was a
bad idea but he craved her company. He wanted, no needed, to show her
that he wasn’t a complete prick. Somehow, he knew that was going to take
work because he really fucked up.
